Mark’s Birthday!

The kids and I nearly went nuts waiting yesterday for Mark to finish up the tasks on his list so we could (finally!) get to the good stuff!

Mark scored big! The kids and

I bought him this really cool (or is that warm?) windbreaker of his favorite hockey team….

Of course, the Buffalo Sabres logo is proudly displayed on the back!

He also got a cool Johnny Cash tee shirt from Ben and Michelle. Let’s see….ah, yes, a gift card for Buffalo Wild Wings…his favorite “local” (haha, it is 45 miles away!!!!) wings joint!  I bought him a birthday card with a cute Golden Labrador Retriever on it. When you open the card,  it barks!  Angus looked a bit perplexed with it and, of course, gave it a good sniffing to make sure there wasn’t indeed a pup in there!

The big gift…..the one that we could hardly wait to see him open!!!!  was the last one!

Please excuse the dish towel hanging on the drying rack next to the chair AND the COBWEBS present under the little cabinet on the wall!!!

Anyway! This is a Martin travel guitar, called a “Backpacker”.  Mark had expressed in passing a few months ago, that he wished he had a travel guitar so he could play whenever he wants.  He has four full-size guitars….an Ovation, a Seagull (from Canada), a Takemine Classical, and a VERY noisy electric guitar!

Here is a close look at the unique design of the Martin….

After tuning the little guitar, Mark was amazed that such a tiny instrument had such a “big” sound! It really does sound nice to me, although it does miss a bit of the “bassiness”of a larger guitar.  The little guitar also came with a shoulder strap, as well as a cute little travel bag with the Martin logo embroidered on it….

I realize that the Martin might or might not stay. A guitar is a highly personal instrument. (But wait, aren’t they all?) Mark will work with the little guitar and see whether he likes it or not and if not, will pick up a different one.  I love music stores that realize it takes time to see whether or not an instrument will work out!  So, Mark was surprised and he loves the compact size. The little guitar weighs nearly nothing!!!

Of course, after all the excitement of the presents, we got the Birthday Cake!  Mark tends to love chocolate, so what better than a Black Forest Cake for the man? Oops…I kinda forgot to take a “before” photo, so here is one I took early this morning out in the garage! (yeah, it is stored in the fridge out in the garage…if anyone wants a piece, they have to get some exercise by going to the garage to get it!)

Yesterday was  busy day with orders, fixing meals, and Mark’s birthday.  I was so sleepy by about seven o’clock, I could hardly wait to trudge up the stairs to bed! I finally went to bed at about 10 to the distinctive strains of a guitar….
